Underground Services have completed two (2) projects with the PPS Partnership (PPS), a JV between Transfield and SKM. We are currently undertaking a third project which is the subject of 'Project Focus' elsewhere in this newsletter. PPS are a project managing contractor for the Water Corporation, and are USA's Client.
PPS's first project was the Hyden Wave Rock Pressure Main and Service Tank, with USA undertaking construction. This project presented some technical, environmental and heritage challenges which were managed well, resulting in an excellent project outcome.
The second project completed was the installation of a 200mm PVC water main in Koonkoobing. The new main commenced at the existing main in Aitken Road and ran 2100m to the service tank on Koonkoobing Hill. While the existing main is on the surface, the new main has been installed underground. Due to a predominance of rock, the trench was excavated using a combination of a 60t trencher and a 30t excavator, incorporating a rock breaker. Use of an existing access track resulted in little or no clearing. This project was finished on time and on budget.
