Koonkoobing Water Main

PPS awarded Underground Services the contract to install a 200mm PVC water main at Koonkoobing in the Central Wheatbelt. The new main commenced at the existing main in Aitken Road and ran 2100m to the service tank on Koonkoobing Hill. While the existing main is on the surface, the new main has been installed underground. Due to a predominance of rock, the trench was excavated using a combination of a 60t trencher and a 30t excavator, incorporating a rock breaker.
Reinstatement work on the project included widening the existing access track to improve accessibility. This involved an upgrade of the gravel track and the addition of new double gates.
Use of the existing access track resulted in little or no clearing.

The connection to the existing steel water supply at Aitken Rd was done in conjunction with Water Corporation maintenance crews and was planned in such a manner as to minimise disruption to the local residents.

Wherever possible, local suppliers and labour were used for the duration of the project.

This project was finished on time and on budget.
